FIVESTAR PR is a registered Public Relations consultancy based in Cape Town. We specialise in servicing the travel, leisure, wellness and property development industries.

The consultancy is owner-managed by Janie van der Spuy, who has 20 years of knowledge and expertise in both the travel and hospitality industries, as well as a keen interest and experience in the property sector.

The business was founded in 1998 and was initially operated as Janie van der Spuy & Associates until it was expanded and re-branded in 2005.

Janie M van der Spuy
Chartered Public Relations Practitioner

Janie van der Spuy completed a BCom degree at the University of Pretoria in 1984, after which she joined South African Airways and for five years travelled extensively as flight attendant on international routes. This was followed by eight years as head of SAA’s PR and Communications department in Cape Town. There she gained invaluable experience in the media and public relations arena, and further developed her interest in the Travel, Tourism and Aviation industries. In July 1998 she resigned from SAA to start up her own PR consultancy, which she has run successfully over the past 12 years.

Rebecca Atherstone

Rebecca Atherstone embarked on her career in Public Relations in 1994, initially within the sphere of Event Management for the V&A Waterfront where she managed a range of events and promotions over a ten year period. She completed a Damelin Diploma in Public Relations in 1996, and has since gained extensive experience as PR practitioner managing a diverse portfolio of PR campaigns. These include the Cape Town Festival, as well as a number of media and publicity projects for the City of Cape Town. She joined FIVESTAR PR in June 2005.
